Project ideas

Each student will submit three project ideas. Requirements:

  • discuss 1-3 project ideas
  • write three paragraphs total discussing these ideas
  • you should have at least three references, using Bibtex references
  • no grade will be assigned, but the submission is mandatory
  • file submitted as <lastname_firstname_ideas.pdf>.

The reason for using Latex is for you to get a chance to do something very simple with it before you have to do more involved things.

Project proposal

Each student will write a proposal for their course project. Requirements:

  • discuss the topic with the instructor before writing the proposal
  • 3 pages in length (Ten percentage points will be taken off for every page over the limit)
  • contains at least 6 references
  • file submitted as <lastname_firstname_proposal.pdf>.

Progress report

The progress report is a revision and extension of the proposal. Requirements:

  • incorporates feedback
  • discusses progress made on the topic since the proposal
  • 6 pages in length (Ten percentage points will be taken off for every page over the limit)
  • contains at least 8 references.
  • file submitted as <lastname_firstname_progress.pdf>.

Project paper

The final report builds on the progress report. Requirements:

Presentation

Each student will give a presentation on his or her project in the last week of class. Requirements:

  • 15 minutes for the talk
  • 5 minutes for questions
  • Powerpoint or PDF slides
  • file submitted as <lastname_firstname_presentation.pdf/ppt>.
